A full calendar ๐ can hide an underbuilt law firm.
Recently, I spoke to a ProVisors attorney networking group filled with successful and very busy attorneys.
During the breakout sessions, I kept hearing versions of the same challenge:
โMy yellow legal pad is full of things I need to do, but no matter how hard I work, I can never seem to get on top of it.
Sometimes, being constantly busy isnโt a time-management problem. Itโs a sign that the systems supporting the work need attention.
When EVERYTHING feels urgent, decisions wait for one person, follow-up lives in someoneโs head, and improvement work keeps getting postponed.
The problem usually isnโt effort.
Itโs the operating system behind the work.
Three shifts can turn activity into traction:
Identify where work gets stuck, and why every problem keeps finding its way back to you.
When a team member brings you a โmonkey,โ help them think through the solution, but donโt take ownership of the problem. Make sure they leave your office with both the solution and the monkey still on ๐ฬฒ๐ฬฒ๐ฬฒ๐ฬฒ๐ฬฒโback.

Choose a few meaningful metrics that create visibility and accountability. Trust but verify!

Define priorities, ownership, and decision-making authority so the team can execute without constant oversight. Don't dump and run!
The goal isnโt to do more.
Itโs to create enough clarity, ownership, and rhythm for the right work to move forward, without heroic ๐ช๐ป effort.
